Cystinosis is a rare inherited disease occurring in about 1 in 200,000 births within developed countries. It occurs when the mechanism removing excess cystine (an amino acid) breaks down. However, these days with better understanding and earlier diagnosis, people with cystinosis are able to lead a longer, fuller life. It is the Foundation’s aim to aid researchers and the cystinosis community to strive for continued improvements.

The normal line-up of the band is: accordion, fiddle, keyboards and drums. For the larger occasions a six- or seven-piece band can be supplied including 2-3 fiddles, flute and second accordion. A piper can be included in the team for weddings and other special occasions. We have lots of contacts in the piping world, including my father-in-law who is a first-rate ex-Black Watch piper. Coisir Lunnainn is the oldest Scottish Gaelic choir, founded in 1891. We meet on Tuesday nights from 7 pm at the Crown Court Church of Scotland hall in Covent Garden. New choristers and visitors are always welcome. Knowledge of Gaelic isn’t necessary – instruction in Gaelic and music is given at choir.

Reeling is probably the closest form of Scottish dancing to how dances were done in the 17th century.The dancing is more fluid and less ballet like compared to the formal Royal Scottish Country Dance type style, although it tends to be more defined than barn dances or ceilidh dancing.
