Forget Blue Monday: celebrate as the Beloved Bard would have wanted – Burns Night London

January for many is a depressing month – the festive celebrations are over, payday is a long way off and another year has passed with things left undone. To shake off those January blues, Ceilidh Club London is holding a series of Burns Night events (19, 25-26 January and 1-2 February 2019) at Hammersmith Town Hall which celebrate the life and poetry of cultural icon Robert Burns.

Marking the 260th birthday (25 January) of Robert Burns, this series of events will include a buffet meal of Haggis, Neeps (turnips) and Tatties (potatoes), poetry recitals and three hours of ceilidh dancing to a live band with a caller will let you know the steps. No experience is necessary. Since 1998 Ceilidh Club has been providing a little bit of Scotland in London with their informal Scottish dancing nights.

Cultural icon and Scotland’s national poet Robert Burns has penned many works in favour of international brotherhood and social equality. With an appeal which has lasted for more than 200 years, at Burns Night events around the world people come together to rejoice in his memory.

Ed McCabe, the founder of Ceilidh Club, who will toast the haggis as it is piped in, said: “Robert Burns wrote about there being much wrong with society, and through his words he wanted everyone to have a chance to achieve what really matters. His works are often about love and equality, and Ceilidh Club with these five Burns Night events will celebrate our greatest Scot as he would have wanted.”
