Are you looking for a London Ceilidh Band?
We’ve been running ceilidhs for over 20 years we’ve worked with the best London ceilidh bands. Whenever you are hiring a band there are certain things to know.
- There is no point in talking to a band until you have a venue and a date. This should be your main focus. Even if it only provisional you need this information before your band can give you a realistic quote.
- A band may seem expensive. But if you think that a) each one will have put in over 10,000 hours worth of practice b) they have expensive instruments to buy, insure and transport and c) a good band will absolutely MAKE your BIG night, then a few pounds extra is a price worth paying. If the band is outside your budget (and you can’t find the money elsewhere ) you can always ask if they can downsize.
- If you’re unsure about how to run your night, ask them. They will have played at more weddings, birthday parties, Bar Mitzvahs and retirement dos than you have been to, so ask their advice.
- Ask if you can see them play before. That’s the real way you can get a feel for them.
- If the band is outside your budget (and you can’t find the money elsewhere ) you can always ask if they can downsize.
- Think if you want to have ceilidh dancing all night, or some cover songs or a part disco. Speaking personally, everyone dances to the ceilidh and it’s brilliant for bringing different nationalities and age groups together. Disco, sometimes not so.
- Remember to feed and water the band well. They will likely have travelled, perhaps for quite a distance and they will likely be getting home late. So having something really nice to eat and drink will make them feel appreciated.
- Bands will have their own insurance but you may want to confirm this.
- Stay in contact with them (but not too much).
- Finally, if you a TV company and want a London Ceilidh Band on your show, do pay them. Playing for ‘exposure’ is all well and good, but think about how much your programme budget is and send some of it their way. Not only will you get happier workers, but you’ll get into heaven as well (if you don’t just tell us and we’ll give you a couple of free tickets to the Ceilidh Club).
